Halfling Pumpkin Spice Bread

For halflings in the northern regions, fall always comes a tad too early. The ease of summer quickly falls away to lower temperatures and concerns about harvest.

This recipe, a treat to celebrate the crisp cold mornings of fall, is well known up north. Some adventurers even whisper that the bread will make you stout of heart. The sublime taste of the halfling creation has spawned numerous copies from other races that, while delicious, seem to lack the satiating touch.

Halfling Pumpkin Spice Bread
1 can (15oz) of Pumpkin Puree
4 eggs
1/2 cup of oil
1/2 cup of applesauce
2 cups of sugar (brown or white with molasses)
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
2 teaspoons of cinnamon
2 teaspoons of nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Mix the pumpkin, eggs, oil, applesauce, sugar, and vanilla until blended.
In a separate container mix the remaining ingredients until well blended.
Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Don't mix any more than you have to.
The batter is enough for two normal loaves or 6 or 7 mini loaves.
Bake. 25 minutes for the adorable halfling mini loaves, probably 40 or 50 for human sized ones.
Serve only if the ambient temperature outside is below 60 degrees. In the morning, it goes well with black coffee. In the afternoon, warm tea will do nicely.

Notes:
The spice mix is heavy, those with constitution scores below 10 should consider reducing the spices by 25 to 50%. Some halfling texts include 2/3 cup water, but I found it unnecessary.
